Our comic book retailer has been using various iterations of Lightspeed since we open our store in 2010. We're currently using the Lightspeed Retail version.

The software is flexible and easy to use.

Customer service is usually quite responsive. It is constantly checking for bugs that affect the software performance.

We would recommend Lightspeed to other retailers.

we are 7 months into this software and are still not using it due to differing tech information and incomplete product listings.
they are chronically understaffed and over the course of the 7 months of trying to work with them it has not improved.

After having used Lightspeed for nearly 2 years, I have some thoughts about the service. Lightspeed had the right idea initially - a cloud-based POS system with eCommerce connectivity. Unfortunately, they do not communicate with the Lightspeed community very often and there are many outages that are unspoken of and do not show on the status page.

Lightspeed has been buying out other POS platforms (such as Vend, NuORDER, Upserve, etc) and seem to put more of their attention to these platforms rather than their own (R-Series) retail platform. I am seeing updates being made to the add-on platforms and no changes being made to Lightspeed Retail, although there are tons of requests from the Lightspeed Community.

Every other week, if not every week, we have an outage where we cannot access Lightspeed Retail. The outages may occur for up to 15 minutes and even up to an hour or longer. This makes it very frustrating when there are customers in our store waiting to check out. We are basically losing money by the minute.

As a side note, the browser-based POS system can be very glitchy.

As far as the actual platform, I would rate Lightspeed Retail a 6.5/10. Its features are pretty nice as is, but there are some changes that could be made to make things more efficient for lots of users.

Lightspeed as a service, I would rate at 3/10. Since we started using Lightspeed, there have been outages too frequently. It started as an outage every other month; lately, we have one nearly every week - and it's not only us, there are others complaining about it as well.

I would rate Lightspeed's communication at a 2/10. They do have an "OK" chat service, but their overall communication isn't great. I have not tried customer support over the phone, so I cannot speak for that.

Lately, there has been quite a bit of regret in choosing this Point of Sale service. Make sure to do your research before committing to Lightspeed Retail. Hopefully things will get better in the future.
